In reaction to misinterpretations the American Psychiatric Affiliation considers pedophilia a sexual orientation as a result of wording in its printed DSM-5 manual, which distinguishes involving paraphilia and what it calls "paraphilic problem", subsequently forming a division of "pedophilia" and "pedophilic dysfunction", the association commented:
